Work in progress pictures/reference picture final piece1. What watercolor techniques proved to be effective in your painting? How and Why? The most effective techniques were dabbing the paintbrush and using the masking fluid. The dabbing created a more realistic looking leaf patter on the trees and the masking fluid created different colored texturing. 2. How important was using transparent layers in your painting? Transparent layers were very important in my painting, which I learned a little too late. However, for the sky I really utilized this and it created a very soft cloud look to it that I wanted to achieve. 3. Explain how your composition was successful? Did you utilize all the elements of art and principles of design? Explain. The sky and trees were successful because I created the depth I needed for the painting, but I did not use it in the whole painting. There are many things I could add in even now. I think I could have spaced everything in their sizes better so that it fit to the spacing of how the picture looked. 4. Was color choice an important factor in the overall success of the painting? Why? Color choice was a little important. I needed it to differentiate between different parts of the painting or for shading in other areas. For the sky though, I did not need to stick to the same colors that were in the picture because I wanted a darker look to it to hep contrast the trees. 5. If you were able to do something different what would it be and why? I would lighten up the water so it could help contrast the sky and not make the painting look as dark and moody. I would have focused more on what I saw in the picture rather than the shapes of everything, I think it would have turned out less rough and more smoothly. 6. Explain to me what you have learned about watercolor and how it has improved or discouraged your development in art. I have learned that I need to take my time, use very light layers and lots of them, how to use the masking fluid, and that I need to look at the picture as a whole and not bit by bit
