This class has been a fun one. I got close with the people who I didn't know too well from the past years and met some new ones that I'm happy to call friends. I learned many new techniques that I'm excited to use in the future and improve on as well. I'll be sure to visit the classroom next semester because it was so much fun :) It was one of favorite classes that I've had in my high school experience, and I wish it could have been year long. Thank you for being a really cool art teacher <3

For this piece I painted a picture of my guinea pig. I used acrylic because I figured it would go the quickest and it was the easiest option. This was my favorite piece by far. I am very proud of how the fur looks and the ears. I think I did a good job on the proportions and perspective of this piece. The only thing I would change is making the nose a little smaller than it is. It just looks a little too big for the size of the guinea pig. But otherwise I think I color matched pretty well and got all the different textures
This one took a little bit more time than everything else because I was trying to get the perspective right. Although I still didn't get it right at the end I am pleased with how this turned out. This is my second landscape painting and I am very proud of how I did. The sand looks like sand, the water looks like water, and the rocks look like rocks. The little cliff in the back was my favorite part because I took my time on the perspective of it. If I did this again I wouldn't change the sand or the cliff. The water and the big cliff in the foreground could use work on perspective, and the cliff in the foreground could use more texture and detail.
This was my first time using oils so I tried to apply what I knew about water color and acrylic to the oil. I enjoyed how the colors could blend so easily even after letting the piece sit out for a bit. I found it so easy to add in soft shadows and highlights because of this. All in all oil paints were fun to use and felt nice and creamy, I hope to be able to use them more in the future.
I took my time with this project because I wanted to make sure everything turned out how I wanted it to. I relined a lot of things so that they would have neat lines and outlines. I tried to get swirly patterns throughout and make wavy patterns similar in all the different parts of the painting. I made some straight lines to stand out from everything else and it wouldn't be as flat. I tried to brighten the colors more with the gold, because I felt that if I put the silver in that it would dull everything out.
Work in progress pictures/reference picture final piece1. What watercolor techniques proved to be effective in your painting? How and Why? The most effective techniques were dabbing the paintbrush and using the masking fluid. The dabbing created a more realistic looking leaf patter on the trees and the masking fluid created different colored texturing. 2. How important was using transparent layers in your painting? Transparent layers were very important in my painting, which I learned a little too late. However, for the sky I really utilized this and it created a very soft cloud look to it that I wanted to achieve. 3. Explain how your composition was successful? Did you utilize all the elements of art and principles of design? Explain. The sky and trees were successful because I created the depth I needed for the painting, but I did not use it in the whole painting. There are many things I could add in even now. I think I could have spaced everything in their sizes better so that it fit to the spacing of how the picture looked. 4. Was color choice an important factor in the overall success of the painting? Why? Color choice was a little important. I needed it to differentiate between different parts of the painting or for shading in other areas. For the sky though, I did not need to stick to the same colors that were in the picture because I wanted a darker look to it to hep contrast the trees. 5. If you were able to do something different what would it be and why? I would lighten up the water so it could help contrast the sky and not make the painting look as dark and moody. I would have focused more on what I saw in the picture rather than the shapes of everything, I think it would have turned out less rough and more smoothly. 6. Explain to me what you have learned about watercolor and how it has improved or discouraged your development in art. I have learned that I need to take my time, use very light layers and lots of them, how to use the masking fluid, and that I need to look at the picture as a whole and not bit by bit For the bananas I picked out 4 different techniques and applied a different one to each painting. The first panel was cool colors, the second panel was warm colors with salt added, the third panel was monochrome, and the fourth panel was complimentary colors. For the lines in the bananas I made them the colors of the background they were sitting on. I definitely could have taken my time and focused on really making the bananas looking as realistic as possible.
