I designed a heart in my sketchbook and drew the lines around it, I then took a marker and marked what I would cut out. After that I got my linoleum block and started to transfer the sketch to the block, and I traced over what I wanted to keep in sharpie. I took my cutting tool and started to cut out of the block. I cut it deep enough to not get ink on it when I transfered it over to the paper. I incorporated line into my piece by adding the beats of the heart around it. I found I was most successful with getting details in my piece. I would change how I did the lines around the heart the next time I did this.

Vorja Sanchez is a Barcelona artist who draws with pencil and adds in bright colors with water color. He gets his inspiratioin from walking through the forest and seeing the liveliness of birds. Vorja will sometimes add in pen work and spray paint to his pieces. His work is inspiring to me because I like the look of adding color into regular pencil drawings. I like to add color into my pencil drawings as well. I would like to be able to draw something as beautiful and whimsical as what he draws because it's very happy drawings that bring life to the pencil. |
