I made a pumpkin with a kitten on the stem. I slabbed the clay and wrapped it around a bowl; then repeated this step to create the two halves. To create the stem: I made it solid, curved it to look like a stem, and then slipped and scored it onto the pumpkin. When the stem was on the pumpkin top I cut the opening of the pumpkin with an exacto knife. I then hollowed out the stem. The final thing I did was create the kitten that sits on the stem. I made two spheres, one smaller than the other; two ears; a tail; and four paws. I made two of the paws curl to make it look like the kitten was hanging off of the stem. I then painted the face onto the kitten when it was fired. I was inspired to create this from a drawing I saw of pumpkins and cats around them by Baylee Jae. I think the most successful part of my piece is the stem, it wasn't too big or small, and it wasn't too curved or straight. If I did this again, I would make sure the two halves of slabs fit together better, smooth out everything better, and maybe change how I did the kitten a little bit. Of course I'm going to sign up for sculpture next year. :D
